I just asked Guido, and it seems I've been overstating the case for
his ignorance of Lisp.  When he was working on Python, he was familiar
enough with the literature to know that Lisp had first-class functions
and that first-class objects seemed like a a good idea.

He was fuzzy on what exactly he had read.  If I had to guess, I'd say
he was familiar with Lisp/Scheme as the existed in the early 80s.
