Rigging the Sails
Jib Tack and Head
- Find the Jib tack and hook onto horn (or other appropriate attachment) on the bow.
- Connect all the clips on the Jib luff to the forestay.
- Get the Jib halyard from the mast and attach to Jib head.
- The Jib halyard goes "inside" the Spinnaker halyard.
- A good way to double check is just to tug the other end of the Jib halyard. This end is on the deck on the starboard side, and should be clearly marked.
Jib Sheets
- Tie the Jib sheets to the Jib clew. Use bowline knots.
- Run the Jib sheets through the Jib fairings (tracks). Note that these fairings are forward of the Genoa fairings.
- Run the Jib sheets through the Jib blocks. Note that these blocks are aft of, and smaller than the Spinnaker blocks.
- Run the Jib sheets clockwise once or twice around the Jib winches.
- Put stopper knots on the loose ends of the Jib sheets.
- Wrap Jib sheet around cleats.
This diagram shows how the Jib sheets should be rigged.
Mainsail
- Get the main halyard from the mast and attach to Mainsail head.
- Guide Mainsail head into slot in mast and run it up one or two feet.
