I agree.

I recall hearing about a junior high physics class that, instead of
learning formulas out of a textbook, the class was designed so that
the students did experiments and "discovered" physical properties
and formulas on their own.  Granted, they might not have discovered
them 100% perfect, and they may not have learned as many as those
they studied the book, but for what they did learn, I would imagine
that they REALLY learned it.

Reinvention isn't always best in business, because we have to get
our jobs done, often quickly.  But I think it's wonderful for
education.
