I do think that's an extremely important question.  Making the stuff 
work with favorite
tools is one of those things that needs to be done if you want wide 
acceptance.  It's part
of the long road between a cool Ph.D. thesis and software that large 
numbers of people
will accept into their lives.

I'm not sure what your favorite tools are, but my current favorite 
(Emacs), and the one
that I strongly expect to be my future favorite (Eclipse), all work with 
AspectJ.
