Rachel Wu

Self-introduction: Hello! My name is Rachel. I develop machine learning algorithms (causality, LLM reasoning) inspired by open problems in molecular biology. For example, how do we deal with high-dimensional, sparse data? Incorporate rich domain knowledge? Ensure that our models are well-calibrated?

Biography: I obtained my PhD from the department of Computer Science at MIT in May 2025. I was advised by Professors Regina Barzilay and Tommi Jaakkola. During my PhD, I was fortunate to be supported by the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program.

Previously I received my MEng from the department of Computer Science at MIT in May 2020, and my BS from the departments of Computer Science and Mathematics at MIT in June 2019.

Work experience: During my undergrad and PhD, I interned at Genentech, Amazon Lab126, the IBM Watson AI Lab, Emerald Innovations, and Bloomberg LP.
